‘Jalan’ vol.1 is a photobook that sets out to capture the experience and vibes of the streets of Kuala Lumpur. It documents what goes on in the streets as well as within buildings and vehicles, recording the behaviour, culture and trend of a certain period in time.
It is also a book that celebrates photography artistically by focusing on the visual aspects of images, be they in colour or in black & white. It does not necessarily rely on the familiar or popular ways of presenting pictures. Ultimately ‘Jalan’ is about seeing. It questions our acknowledgement and appreciation of what we see around us everyday.
Vol.1 covers three topics: rainy nights in Bukit Bintang and KLCC, traveling on the LRT and MRT, and capturing black & white images.

Azul Adnan is a photographer and educator. His photos and articles have been published in the media and his works have been exhibited at the National Art Gallery Malaysia and at exhibitions and photography festivals in London, Jeonju, North Carolina and Zurich.
Azul is a regular speaker at the annual Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival and has been a panel judge for several photography competitions. He organises and leads photo walks around Kuala Lumpur.
